The Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) is looking for an exceptional candidate to become our new Head of Energy and Sustainability.   • Ability to design and conduct rigorous evaluations, including Randomised Controlled Trials, difference in differences, regression discontinuity, and propensity score matching.

The Research Fellow will join Professor Todd Rogers and his team in the Student Social Support R&D Lab (S3 R&D Lab) at the Center for Public Leadership, Harvard Kennedy School.  The S3 R&D Lab works on projects at the intersection of education, psychology, judgment and decision-making, and behavioral economics.

Most of the S3 R&D Lab’s research projects explore the impact on student achievement of mobilizing the support of students' family and friends.  This education intervention research takes place in a range of educational settings, including K-12 schools and districts, online universities, state and community colleges', test prep programs, and MOOCs.

The Research Fellow position is an excellent opportunity for those interested in eventually pursuing advanced degrees and/or careers in research.

Research Fellows should have a combination of the following skills:

    • Experience managing, analyzing, and manipulating large datasets
    • Experience handling sensitive data securely 
    • Excellent statistical analysis skills, preferably with a focus on randomized field experiments
    • Proficiency using statistical software (Stata preferred; R, Matlab, SAS, and SPSS okay)
    • Attention to detail
    • Strong communication and writing skills

At HelloWallet, we provide independent financial guidance via online and mobile applications to the employees of Fortune 100 companies.  On the research team, we apply behavioral economics to develop effective interventions that increase the adoption, usage, and long term impact of our product on our member’s finances.  We conduct hundreds of experimental studies to determine what works, and what doesn’t.   We are doggedly pragmatic – sometimes that means isolating a theoretical mechanism, but often it means trying every crazy idea we can think of, and testing the nuances of framing and presentation that academic research never considers.

To join the team, you’ll need insight into how the mind makes decisions, and know how to study and write about the decision making process.  Usually, that means formal postgraduate training in behavioral economics, political behavior, or judgment and decision making.  It certainly means knowing how to run power calcs, and how to analyze experimental results.   

All the boring stuff:

Postgraduate training in behavioral social science, or equivalent professional experience
Professional experience in applied consumer research is ideal, especially with consumer financial behavior
Demonstrated ability writing about behavioral research for a general audience is also ideal.
At least two years of experience using R or STATA to analyze complex datasets and panel data (academics: yes, GRAs count)
Experience doing data processing and analysis in SQL in a big plus

BIT Ventures - Senior Programme Manager

The Psychologist - Behavioral Scientist is to support US Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine, of 711 HPW/HP, Human Systems Integration Directorate.

The mission of the 711 Human Systems Integration Directorate (711 HPW/HP) and purpose of Human Systems Integration (HSI) is to optimize warfighter capability through a human-centric approach to system development, acquisition, and sustainment.

The Psychologist must have the ability to apply human performance theories and principles in the analysis and design of human systems, apply human modeling capabilities to facilitate the analysis and design of human systems, synthesize and appraise the domains of HSI in a systems acquisition context, and appraise the political, organizational, social, and economic issues associated with integrating human-machine systems into organizations.

• Capability Planning Assessments and Analysis. Provide consultation and analyses to support a more comprehensive consideration of the human element in the assessment and analysis of capability gaps. Identify quantity and type of analysis/assessment provided per program. Provide impact statement/Return on Investment (ROI) data.
• Review all MAJCOM capabilities-based documents staffed in the Information and Resource Support System 
• Provide HSI plan for supervisory/technical director review.
• Prepare and submit input reports for Working Group (WG) meeting
• Capability Modifications. The contractor shall work with capability managers to review System Modification Forms (AF Form 1067) for human-related issues and drive HSI domain considerations into deficiency investigations and resolution.
• Capabilities Development, Production and Deployment. The contractors will provide support to program offices for the acquisition phases: technology development phase; engineering and manufacturing development phase; production and deployment phase; operations and support phase.

Education
• Graduate degree in behavioral science, psychology; sociology; or human factors engineering is mandatory. Completion of one or more of the following courses at the graduate level: mathematics, statistics, quantitative methods, research analysis, research design, research methods, modeling, simulation, systems engineering is mandatory.
• Completion of the Acquisition Fundamentals Course (WFAM 103) or (L30QR63A1) or Defense Acquisition University Fundamentals of Systems Acquisition Management (ACQ 101) will be required or equivalent classes in Acquisition Management.
Experience
• Minimum of 5 years experience in human factors research, development, design, and technical writing or related field. 
• Minimum of 3 years experience specializing in HSI and defense acquisitions. Preference will be given to degree in HSI, certification in HSI, or participation in HSI certificate program.
• Experience in writing a variety of technical articles, reports, brochures, and/or manuals for documentation for a wide range of uses.
• Knowledge of Government regulations, manuals, technical orders, standards and industry publications related to the discipline required to perform the work on the Task Order.
• Expertise in specifications and/or utilization in a specific HSI domain (manpower, personnel, training, human factors engineering, environment, safety, occupational health, survivability, and habitability.

The Federal Health Operation has an immediate opening for a full time Research Scientist I to support the Health and Behavioral Sciences Department at the Naval Health Research Center in San Diego, CA.

This position support a longitudinal survey and database research project to assess the health, readiness, and training of military medical personnel. The successful candidate will work closely and collaboratively with Principal Investigators, analysts and subject matter experts to identify ways to answer complex mental and physical health questions with population-level military medical and personnel electronic records. The successful candidate will manage and support (1) the day-to-day operations of the survey administration effort and (2) the creation, cleaning, and management of a project-specific database. The successful candidate must be prepared to work independently to complete discrete tasks, with minimal supervision, but should also be comfortable working as part of a larger research team. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing tasking assigned by Principal Investigators, but will also be responsible for supervising and tasking project support personnel.

Besides the primary tasks of survey administration and database creation, the successful candidate will be prepared to support efforts and share lead responsibility for tasks across the full research project cycle, including, but not limited to: project conceptualization; proposal development and submission; project documentation and compliance (e.g., IRB protocol, data-sharing agreements, survey approval, etc.); data collection; data management; data analysis; presentation of results; and preparation of manuscripts. The successful applicant will be prepared to work independently as a representative of the research team at meetings, conferences, and other off-site commitments. The successful applicant will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills to successfully interact with a variety of people, including high-level military personnel.
